What a weekend it was! Spring bank holiday weekend our Young People Together project visited Comic Con in London with 14 intrepid fans! We arrived in London late on Friday and made our way to the YHA Thameside and big thanks to all the staff there who made us feel very welcome and always had a smile for us, after a long day and a lot of travelling it was an early night for everyone so we could be up bright and early to get to Comic Con!!! We navigated our way by bus and tube and finally got to the Comic Con convention at the Excel centre…along with about 20000 other fans! Standing in the queue we saw so many different characters and got a chance to chat to other like minded people which made the one hour queue time a little more bearable. As you can see from the pics some of our superheroes were very interested in our new Super Me project too. Once we were in it was choc a bloc! All our young people really enjoyed themselves and said it was an experience they would always remember. After a full day at Comic Con what better way to round it off than with a delic dinner at Eddie Rockets in Leicester Square (huge thanks to the staff for being so accommodating) and a trip to the cinema to see X-Men: Days of Future Past in 3D. After some more navigation of the London underground we were back at base and ready for sleep. It wasn’t finished yet though, on Sunday we squeezed a trip to the London Dungeons and the Natural History Museum in before boarding our bus back to Gatwick to get the teatime flight home. What a weekend! Mencap NI Team would like to thank all the young people and their families for supporting us with this trip and thanks also to all the staff, organisers, providers and Comic Con!
