On Saturday 14th June Mencap NI’s Young Ambassadors went along for the third annual Disability Surf Festival held by Long Line Surf School at Benone Beach.
Our Young Ambassadors had been working hard to raise some funds for the festival so that this year there would be even more activities for everyone to try. Well done to all our Young Ambassadors who riased an amazing £275.00. When we arrived after a quick cuppa and a bacon sarnie we met up with some new friends from the NOW Project in Belfast. We did a few getting to know you games before we got ourselves suited and booted and headed down to the beach. The RNLI lifeguards and volunteers were fantastic as always and we really couldn’t have asked for a better bunch of instructors.
After our session it was back up the boardwalk for a quick change and a bite to eat before we got stuck in to all the après surf activities. It was a great joint effort from our very own Youth Team and Long Line Surf School who between them had more than enough to keep us all entertained until home time. We tried out the reflexology and Indian Head Massage before chilling out a bit more with some relaxing yoga. After a proper chill out session it was time to get moving again and our friends from Bouncin’ DJ were there to help us all get involved and get the party started! The guys from Adventure Activities NI brought loads of of toys including smoothie bikes, art drum bikes and power bikes which we used to power the DJ stage! We’re looking forward to seein’ those guys again in September for Disability Pride.
A brilliant day was had by everyone and huge thanks to all involved in making this year’s festival such a success. We look forward to being part of it again next year. For all the pics from our sunny surf day check out our facebook page but in the meantime here’s just a few….
